Renewed Nail Review

December 28, 2008 by: ToddieM

Fungal nails are the bane of our existence. We as podiatrists see a lot of these thick and crumbly nails. It is a very difficult problem to treat with low cure rates.

Along comes yet another new product on the market. This product is called “Renewed Nail”. It has caught the attention of this podiatrist for the following reasons:

  • it is much less expensive than Penlac, or other topical anti-fungal prescriptions on the market.
  • it is much less toxic than taking an anti-fungal pill such as Sporonox
  • it takes on another “method of kill” as it effectively locks out the nail itself from moisture which the fungus needs to survive in addition to attacking the fungus itself

For women, this topical can be put on before your nail polish. It can effectively bond the nail for four weeks. The cure rate quoted in the literature is 49%. The whole cure rate is enhanced by debridement of the nail as the fungus erodes.

This leaves the door open for visits to your friendly podiatrist.
